5. What are your thoughts on women in the design and media creative fields?

While there are many women in the creative industry, there is room for many more. In my experience, the leadership in tech is still dominated by men which impacts the way teams are managed. I’ve noticed that some teams with men as leaders are run differently from women-led teams. While men may value productivity, discussion, and progress, women like myself can identify areas that need nurturing to bring the best out of each team member. I believe in empowering my team members to think for themselves, and I emphasize mentorship, as well as checking in with my team about their mental health. I encourage boundary setting so that my team feels heard and valued. By incorporating more strategies of empowerment, we can improve team dynamics, consequently, improving productivity with lower burnout rates. Since more women-led teams believe in empowerment strategies, I’m hopeful that more women will eventually take on creative strategy roles rather than excelling at the execution level.

6. Where do you see yourself in a year?

I see myself managing multiple projects as a solopreneur, and product designer/manager working with an innovative team. While I can forecast plenty of growth this year I know I need to slow down by creating rest systems for myself. I’m a huge proponent of energy management over time management so I’ll be creating a more detailed system around that. This time next year I would have created a handful of systems around my energy management needs that can then benefit my mentees and personal network.
